Fonthill : The Home of Henry Chapman Mercer--An American Architectural Treasure in Historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania
Published in Paperback by Manor House Publishing Inc. (15 September, 2000)
Average review score:

Very highly recommended reading for architectural studentsIn 1908, tile maker Henry Chapman Mercer turned his artistic talents to planning and constructing Fonthill, a "castle in concrete". Fonthill served as Mercer's residence and a personal museum for his decorative tiles, prints and artifacts from 1912 until his death in 1930. Fonthill: The Home Of Henry Chapman Mercer is an informative survey and presentation of this architectural achievement, enhanced throughout with photography (22 b/w, 56 color), heretofore unpublished illustrations, as well as sketches and comments from mercer's own construction notebook. The photography, architectural cross sections and floor plans for each level of Fonthill highlight the innovative design, artistic detail and decorative tile work comprising an original American architectural treasure. Fonthill: The Home Of Henry Chapman Mercer is very highly recommended reading for architectural students and anyone with an interest in American architectural history and the National Historic Landmark series.
Fonthill A Must Read and A Must VisitI have visited Fonthill Museum many, many times and finally there is a book that does this fantastic place justice. The color photographs and the floorplans alone are worth the price of the book. Fonthill is a unique artistic expression of a relatively unkown renaissance man, Henry Chapman Mercer. As the book describes, despite its random apperance from the exterior and interior, the house is built with a great deal of thought, intent, and philosophy. If you love tiles, architecture, archaeology, the Arts & Crafts Movement, and history, then this book is a must read, and Fonthill is a must visit!
Fascinating book, fascinating homeThis comprehensive book beautifully illustrates an extraordinary home built by Henry Mercer in Doylestown, PA. The color photographs give the reader a glimpse of this tiled concrete castle. What a fascinating book about a fascinating home!

Frog Goes to Dinner
Published in Paperback by Puffin (August, 1992)
Average review score:

great resource for teachersThis is an excellent book for teachers to have- can work with prediction (what will happen next?) and creative writing (older students may write their own "text" for the illustrations).
Beautiful illustrations and very humorous!
frog goes to dinnerClever story, clearly told with pictures alone. Great for young children to enjoy with adults or by themselves.
If looks could kill.....The book is as enjoyable when you're 33 as when your 3. I was cleaning a closet and found my original version from '77 and had to sit down (or fall down laughing) to "read" it. The illustrations are definately worth more than a thousand words. Frog's good time is only deterred by the evil looks cast at him by the family. We've all been there. It is amazing the feeling that animation can evoke. "Oh to be that frog".....After enjoying it to the fullest I ordered it for all the kids on my Christmas list from 2 to 102 that I felt would appreciate it. And of course Amazon delivered them on time.

Little Monster's Bedtime Book (Golden Look-Look Book)
Published in Paperback by Golden Pr (July, 1984)
Average review score:

My Favorite Children's Book EverI recently was asked the question,"What's your favorite children's book?" on a survey. This was an obvious choice for me. I can still recite most of the monster's rhymes by heart 20 years later. I bought Mercer Mayer's new Professor Wormbog book for my niece a few month's back because it has all of the same characters.
Best bedtime bookever!!I will always remember this book. When I was a child it was my favorite and always will be. The illustrations and rhymes kept me reading it over and over. I had misplaced the book when I was young and just recently searched for another copy so I could share the fun with my own children.
Monsters and RhymesMy mom used to read this book to me and my brother. It is wonderfully silly and detailed. You can follow Little Monster and his pet through the story book his Pop is reading him. There he meets a world full of strange and silly monsters. It is one of the best kids books out there. Pick up a copy, if you can find one.

Mercer's Orthopaedic Surgery
Published in Hardcover by Edward Arnold (15 January, 1996)
Average review score:

A bible on orthopaedics for orthopaedists.A must have text, very extensive for the busy surgeon , but if you need a review , a fast one, there it is to help you...the Mercer's , a classical in orthopaedics, the only matter is tha fractures are not focused at all on this text.
A bible on orthopaedics for orthopaedists. This text is a must have, and if you buy it you will have a text for many years, buying "review of orthopaedics" you will be up-date every 3 years or so on. But this book itself is a friend for ever and will be there to be asked.
a bible in orthopaedics...maybe the best...A bible in orthopaedics and maybe the best in it's field, I think that a textbook like this makes easier the orthopaedical practice. The people that buy it maybe have to buy sooner or later the review of orthopaedics or the currentdiagnosis of orthopedics to be up date every 2 or 3 years, and , of course the Journals of orthopaedics and the meetings of the severeal associations of orthopaedics surgeons.

Ooey Gooey (Mercer Mayer's Critters of the Night (Library))
Published in Library Binding by Random Library (April, 1998)
Average review score:

Ooey GooeyMy favorite pirate book, and we have most of them, I ordered 5 more to give as gifts, Easy to read, and absolutely darling pictures. Story line keeps us all amused. I changed the work, "hate " on the last page to dislike, since I would rather say dislike around my five year old.
A keeper at our house! We've had this book for about 2 years....we're still reading it! My son (now 6) loves it. But it's definitely not just a "boy book". It's fun for everyone. We have several other "Critters of the Night" and "Little Critter" stories too. These are the kind of books that encourage kids to 'want' to read simply because they are fun, entertaining and just well done. We've bought every one of these books that we've come across - except for the "L.C. and the Critter Kids" series - and we have not bought those only so there will be something to look forward to in the future as my son enters that particular reading level.
They LOVED it!I just stumbled upon this book and my 4 year old and 1 year old just loved it. It has a great story about a benign pirate who loses his gold tooth to a sea beast and then must search undersea to find it again. The illustrations are great. Best of all, it is a Step Up To Reading book. We read it to our 4 year old and the verse is constructed so that he can finish the sentences all by himself. It is his first real "participation" book, but it is not just exclusively for older preschoolers, as our 1 year old is equally interested in it as well. We really are pleased with this book and are looking for more just like it.

Teaching Students With Learning Problems
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall (24 June, 1997)
Average review score:

A must have for serious special educators!I have always used Cecil's book in my own research in developing materials. It is written clearly, is regularly updated, and presents sound thinking for special educators. If you work with students with learning and/or behavioral problems, this book is essential.
A student teacher of students with learning disabilitiesI used this book in one of my methods classes in college. It is a wonderful book and I am so glad I have it. I highly recommend it to new teachers. It provides insight and activities for teaching students reading, writing, math, and social skills. This is not a book of theory--it is definitely a methods book. This book also includes one of the most important things a teacher could ever want--a scope and sequence list in the appendix. This book also provides Learning Strategies (COPS, TOWER, and others).
A Mild Disabilities teacher in IndianaThis book contains many excellent strategies for use with students who struggle in reading and math.

There's Something in My Attic

CHS Book ReportThis book was read to me as a little people and still love it!
CHS Book ReportI like this book because it was read all the time when i was like 3 and 4 and still love it!
This is one of my favorites by Mercer Mayer.I teach preschool aged children and we use this story when talking about fears. When I read it I start in a whispered tone, and when she sees the "something" in the atic I yell at the same time she does. The children jump a mile and laugh like mad. We then take a good look at the "something" and the girl. We all belive the "something" is more scard than the girl. I recomend this and any of Mayer's Little Critter books to any one with children.

Whinnie the Lovesick Dragon
Published in School & Library Binding by Atheneum (April, 1986)
Average review score:

Can't believe this great book is out of printThis is a really good book that kids AND their parents will enjoy. It is bound to be a book often requested by your kids, but you won't mind reading it over and over again. A good story and very good illustrations.
a wonderful story with exceptional illustrationsThis is a story about love. I've cherished this book since I was a child. I was so excited to have bought it - it's out of print, though copies still exist. The illustrations are not only colorful, but intricate as well. Take time to really look at them. The ending will surprise you. If you cannot find a copy you want to buy, check it out at the library. Let the memories begin!
An interesting twist. When a lonely dragoness falls for a knight...how far will she go to win him? Magically transforming herself into a princess seems like the best answer...but is it really? An interesting twist on a fairy tale.

High Fit-Low Fat
Published in Plastic Comb by Favorite Recipes Press (FRP) (December, 1994)
Average review score:

Great for the novice and experienced chefsI own both of the High Fit - Low Fat cookbooks (regular and vegetarian). The books are good for both novice and experienced chefs. Although I own many cookbooks, I do the majority of my cooking from the High Fit - Low Fat recipes. The recipes call for healthy ingredients. The recipes are created in such a way that my family can't tell the healthy version from the less-than-healthy version, except that mine tastes better! Cooking has never been so easy or nutritious. (The cookbooks make great gifts too, I bought 10 as gifts for family members)!

Adams and Jefferson: A Revolutionary Dialogue (Mercer University Lamar Memorial Lectures ; No. 19)
Published in Textbook Binding by University of Georgia Press (November, 1976)
Average review score:

A Broken Friendship Can Be RepairedMerrill D. PetersonÕs Adams and Jefferson: A Revolutionary Dialogue is a well-documented study of how two men of differing characters and political views met and became life-long friends. Drawing heavily on the Adams-Jefferson letters and other primary sources, Peterson does a satisfactory job of explaining why these two men became friends and traced the very course of their friendship. In reading this book, I have learned that even though political events like the Election of 1800 and the French Revolution can overwhelm and destroy a friendship, a faithful friend can act as a go-between and help repair a friendship.
Wonderful Little BookThis book is a brilliant account of the fascinating relationship between two of the most brilliant minds in American history. It is a highly enjoyable read, and a welcome companion to the "The Adams-Jefferson Letters."
